I got the ultimate compliment as a professor this weekend. Three of my students sent me emails this weekend with links to articles on the Swine Flu! "Professor, check out this really interesting article! It made me think of micro class."

We had a lecture and lab on Influenzae last week. They're *actually* listening to me and I'm *actually* teaching them something relevant.

How cool is that after years of doing pointless bench work that NO ONE gives a sh*t about???

    everything's going my way :)
Do you ever have those days where you know that some good force is looking out for you and things just sort of fall into place? I had one yesterday.

In the afternoon, my adviser brought me THE form with THE box checked, giving me permission to start writing my dissertation at the end of the month, with the intention to defend mid-Nov, which means I'll be DONE DONE DONE by my birthday!!! I was still flying on cloud nine when I got an email an hour later with a job offer to teach microbiology lecture and lab at a local college for spring 09!!

And to top it off, my whole family is coming to visit me today for 10 days, which I am SOOO excited about! I happen to be one of those lucky people who really loves spending time with her family :D

    am i amused or horrified?
Killing time at work today, I read the news of the weird and came across this website: http://www.youvebeenleftbehind.com/

To sum it, it's a service for Christians so that they can pass messages via email to their heathen loved ones after Rapture/Judgment Day, when all the "true believers" will be lifted up to heaven, leaving behind everyone who hasn't accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. The suggested content of the messages is to inform those left behind that they can still repent and be SAVED!

Okay....here comes the best part: people subscribing to this service ($40/year) also submit all their information (including bank account pins, power of attorney, etc.) which will be sent via email after Rapture occurs, so that heathen loved ones won't have to wait for probate court.

    Opinions on coffee??
I've been trying to adhere to the candida diet for the last three months and have gotten *pretty* good about resisting sugar, cheese & booze (VERY hard). Things have gotten better but I seem to cycle from yeast infection to UTI every two weeks or so.

The one thing that's on all the lists that I can't bring myself to give up coffee. Any opinions? Is it that bad & could that be a reason why I still am having horrible symptoms? I just love it so much so I need reassurance that it will make a difference before I can give it up!!!!

    have a heart....
As Christmas approaches, my heart is heavy with grief. My darling baby sister died two weeks ago from an accidental overdose. Here's her myspace, which we didn't even know about: http://www.myspace.com/sarabadara7272

I've decided that I need to go back to Minnesota to see my mom this coming up week & driving is the only option due to finances. I have to ask/beg/plead my boss to let me work from home the three wasted week days between Christmas & New Year's. He's kinda being an unsympathetic bastard robot & put pressure on me the second I walked in door. My work did not send flowers or even a card. Now I feel like a horrible weak person cause I wanna spend the holiday with my family.

My god, have a heart please.....

Join us Monday, March 5, 7pm at AIDS Project Worcester for a special discussion group on the Klein Grid.

Dr. Fritz Klein, who recently passed, was a pioneer in bisexual studies by publishing The Bisexual Option in 1979, the first psychological study on the subject. He further contributed to all sexuality studies with his expansion of the Kinsey’s scale, which rates a person’s sexual orientation.

The Klein Grid takes into consideration sexual attractions, fantasies, emotional preference, social preference, lifestyle and self-identification for the past, present and ideal future. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klein_Sexual_Orientation_Grid

Luigi Ferrar, bisexual activist and a colleague of Dr. Klein, will visit from Boston to lead the discussion. Dinner will be provided.

AIDS Project Worcester is located 85 Green street in Worcester, MA. The entrance is behind the store front, follow green APW signs along Plymouth Street. Call Christina 508-755-3773 with any questions.

    Is polyamorous a sexual orientation?
I was in a discussion yesterday with two men, one bisexual poly, the other gay and knew nothing about polyamory. I made the statement that people who are poly experience a similar coming-out experience as any other GLBT individual. In some ways, coming out as poly is worse as it's SOOO NOT socially accepted in most cultures.

I personally believe that polyamory is a sexual orientation & some people are born that way (myself included). I use the word "queer" because I see my straight poly friends just as queer as my bisexual, etc. friends.

The two men disagreed with me, definately about the coming out experiences being the same, as well as the orientation, claiming that poly is just a behavior or lifestyle.

Any thoughts? Do you believe that polyamorous is an orientation that you're born with?

    WORKSHOPS & SCHEDULE UPDATE:
The workshop committee has been hard at work and we're thrilled to announce that we've revised the schedule on Sunday to accommodate more workshops! We now have 2 full days of programming that will let us all learn even more, find more ways to collaborate, and reach out to even more participants from communities around the Northeast!
For an updated list of workshops, visit our website: http://www.transcendingboundaries.org/workshops/
And, back by popular demand, we'll have space available after the Closing Plenary for participants to create their own workshops. This DIY opportunity was used last year for topics as diverse as a dating discussion group and a reiki demonstration. See the whole weekend schedule on our website: http://www.transcendingboundaries.org/program_schedule/

    Love is a beautiful thing!
Wow! I realized that I haven't been on LJ in over a month! I've been pre-occupied with my wonderful new love.
His just so amazing that I feel like I'm walking in a surreal dream or I'm a character in a delicious romance novel. Not a trashy romance novel, but one filled with joy and delight and true, deep passionate love. The kind of love that you long for if you don't have it and if you do, you feel immune to all the sadness in the world.
I know I'm in that "infatuation" phase, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. The more I get to know him, the more in love I am! I've thrown all caution into the wind and I've opened my heart to him. Thank all the powers that be for bringing him into my life and I am grateful for all the happiness that is in my life right now.

    YEAH!
    YEAH!!!!!!!! I've met someone amazing!
I have butterflies in my tummy all the time and I'm completely twitterpated (see Bambi). The best part is the feeling is completely mutual!! I'm trying to act all cool and hold back, but it's so hard not to jump head first, especially when I want to call him every minute of everyday. I can't believe that I'm feeling like this so soon after a bad heartbreak; it's not exactly part of my 'plan'. I'm going with it and I'll see where this takes me and I have a feeling it's going to be a WONDERFUL summer.
